Indications
Doxycycline is a bacteriostatic antibiotic used by veterinarians for the treatment of infections such as Lyme disease, Chlamydia, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever and bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms.
Doxycycline is used for the treatment of infections caused by Doxycycline susceptible organisms in dogs and cats including skin infections, such as pyoderma, folliculitis, respiratory infections, genitourinary infections, otitis externa and otitis media, osteomyelitis and puerperal infections.
Dosage and administration
For oral use.
Dogs: 5-10mg/kg b.w. every 12-24 hours.
Cats: 4-5mg/kg b.w. every 12 hours.
Horse: 10-20 mg/kg b.w. every 12 hours.
Precautions
Doxycycline should not be used in animals allergic to it or other tetracycline antibiotics.
Use with caution in animals with impaired liver or kidney function.
Do not use in pregnant, nursing, or growing animals since this medication may cause slowing of bone growth and discoloration of teeth.
Side Effects
Side effects of doxycycline include vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite and drowsiness.
Withdrawal period
Meat: 12days
Milk: 4 days
Storage
Tightly sealed and store in dry place, protect from light in room temperature.
